Lavender Cottage

Getting out of town and heading into the countryside is nice. Today we headed to Lavender Cottage in Miaoli County (苗栗 Miáolì). It might seem expensive for how small the park is, but the entire entrance fee can be applied to anything you order in the cafe or restaurant. We had brunch in the restaurant, at the huge windows, and the food was much better than you'd expect at a random little park in the middle of nowhere.

We had a leisurely stroll through the park (which is not large, but still is a lovely, serene retreat from the city). Mom asked one of the gardeners about some plant that had been in the restaurant's water. He gave us a mini tour of all the edible and aromatic plants; he was so enthusiastic about what is clearly his passion.

There is a wish tree and I left a wish for Mike to find back in March 2016. I sent him on the task of finding it, and when I finally caught up to him at the tree (I was distracted taking photos), we realized that he'd completely wasted his time because they remove wishes frequently. Oh well! I made a new wish and we continued on our walk.

Back home, we rested a bit and then went to Thai Town restaurant in the Metro Walk Shopping Center. Mom was craving Thai. It was good -- spicy! We walked through the basement/food court (my favorite part of Asian malls) and got Beard Papa cream puffs. I don't know if I just always miss this in American Beard Papas or what, but we were there when one of the ovens completed a batch of puffs. The oven dinged a little song and then the employees (3 adorable girls) all sang a song together! It was so cute!

We bought some interesting-looking breads at Gino Pasco for breakfast tomorrow and headed home.
